Donation Drive Announcement

Today Yale launches it’s Donation Drive for the Homeless Community.

We offer a safe, warm and dry place to spend the day, with access to food, hot drinks and clean and dry clothes for anyone who finds themselves homeless.

But in order to do this we rely on donations from all over Manchester.

We have produced a poster (seen here) that can be displayed anywhere you think it may be useful.

Food Fridays – John & Bernie’s Diner

We are not ones to boast, but we definitely have the best tenants here at Yale!

Last Friday John and Bernie prepared an absolute feast of hot food for our tenants and Oldham’s homeless community.

There was Chilli, Chicken Korma and Sausage Casserole, along with sandwiches and desserts!

It’s safe to say nobody left hungry.

We couldn’t be more proud of the development of our tenants, and their dedication to helping others.

Our New Tenant’s Gallery

We’ve a new addition to the Hub at Yale.

Each month we’ll showcase the artwork made by our talented Hub visitors, within a specific theme.

Each piece of art will be framed and appear on our gallery wall for the whole month.

We encourage our visitors to take part in our craft afternoons, socialise with other visitors and hopefully produce a work of art (no pressure though!).

Last month’s theme was Manchester and it looked brilliant!

Well done to everyone who took part!

Upcoming Day trip!

We had a trip to the Imperial War museum planned for October 3rd, led by the brilliant John.

Everyone was excited to set off and a packed lunch was provided for the adventure.

Upon their return, it had already been decided that a return trip was needed as there was so much to see!

A great day all round!

Bingo Thursday is back!

After a little absence we’ve brought back Bingo Thursdays for our Hub visitors.

It’s lovely to see both our tenants and our homeless visitors joining in the fun.

Safe to say everyone was pleased with their prizes!

It’s never too early for Christmas preparation!

Our Hub users have started preparing our Christmas Crafts for our Charity Stall!

Today we got cracking with our cards – lets just say there’s a lot of glitter floating about the Hub!

Yale tenants prepare to welcome The High Sheriff and Mayor of Oldham!

Yale are looking forward to hosting the High Sheriff of Manchester and the Mayor of Oldham this September!

Our brilliant tenants are looking forward to sharing their experiences with our guests on the 20th. We’ve dedicated our craft time to preparing artwork that showcases Oldham’s place in Manchester.

Yale Housing Open Day and Coffee Morning raise £200 for MacMillan Cancer

The Open Day and Coffee Morning held at the new offices of Yale Housing raised £200 for MacMillan Cancer.

Julie Thompson, the founder and CEO of Yale Housing, welcomed the guests to the event, and Mayor Qumer made a speech recognising the efforts of Yale Housing and the service provided to residents of Oldham.

Ms Thonpson said: “One of our tenants, Marie Kay, informed us that she was hoping to hold a coffee morning. We thought it would be a good idea to combine the two events.”

Marie Kay said: “I wanted to support my sister Emma, who has recently undergone treatment for cancer and is now in remission.

“I wanted to repay those involved for all their hard work and dedication who helped her sister and her family through this particularly troubling time.

“Yale Housing said they would help me by hosting the event at their new offices.”

The Mayor of Oldham, Shadad Qumer attended the event with his wife Sobia, as did Councillor Jenny Harrison.

The event was also attended by officers from Oldham Council, NHS, Social Services, Keyring and First Choice Homes, and tenants of Yale Housing.

Darren Edwards, finance director at Finlays Beverages Ltd, supported the event by providing free tea and coffee to help bolster donations.

Yale Housing offers accommodation and tenancy support to individuals with long term support needs, such as mental health issues, learning disabilities, young people leaving care, people with alcohol or substance misuse issues and prolific offenders within the borough of Oldham.

The new Yale Housing offices are at 103 Union Street, Oldham, OL1 1QH.
